Koltsov also played for the Pittsburgh Penguins for three years, with the team offering “their deepest condolences” to his friends and family. Sabalenka is the second seed in Miami and was expected to enter the competition in the second round following a first-round bye. The world number two will play Spain’s Paula Bardosa in her opening game of the Miami Open and is aiming to win her 15th career title. Sabalenka lost her father Sergey in 2019 and described him as her “biggest motivation” after retaining her Australian Open crown this year.
